Budget Impact: Hyundai Revises The Price Of Kona Electric

Hyundai Nepal has announced the updated pricing for its Kona fully-electric subcompact SUV. The Kona EV which is available in three variants (NS, GL and GLS) in the Nepalese market has seen an increment of Rs 40,000 on the top-of-the-line GLS variant. The Kona EV GLS which was priced at Rs 64,56,000 will now cost Rs 64,96,000.  The prices of the other variant remain the same.The Kona Electric comes powered by a 39.2kWh lithium-ion polymer battery to deliver a range of 305 km on one full charge. The electric motor of the Kona makes 134 hp and 395 Nm of instant torque. The Kona Electric gets an extensive Smart Sense safety suite, regenerative braking, paddle shifters, shift by wire system, and climate pre-settings. The front comes with a new grille and daytime running lights and has also received a wider set of tail lights to emphasize the car's presence on the street.Similarly, the Korean carmaker recently revised the pricing of the Ioniq 5 as well. The Ioniq 5, the first car in Hyundai’s EV-dedicated Ioniq sub-brand and the first Hyundai automobile to be constructed on a new specialized E-GMP battery electric vehicle platform, ushers in a new era for EV design as well as EV performance and capability.  The Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets a Rear-Wheel Drive, Vision Roof, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, Ambient Mood Lights, Power Tailgate, Rain-Sensing Wipers, Blind-Spot View Monitor(BVM), and Voice Recognition Vehicle Control, among many others.Also Read: Hyundai Ioniq 5: A Glimpse Into The Future

Hyundai Nepal offers the Ioniq 5 in a 58.9 kWh battery pack option with rear-wheel drive. This entry-level motor produces 168 bhp (125 kW) and a beefy 350 Nm of torque. This means you can go from 0 to 100kmph in just 5.2 seconds. The Ioniq 5 gets an official range of 364 km.

Through the new budget, the government has added a 10 percent excise duty and 15 percent customs duty on EVs between 50 to 100 kW. Earlier, this segment attracted 10 percent customs only. Similarly, for EVs between 100 to 200 kW, the government has decreased the excise duty and customs duty to 20 percent each.
